Ludvig Nilsson Investments & portfolio management

“I spend most of my time on the later steps of our investment process, from the final stages of our underwriting work to the 100-day planning and portfolio management. Practically speaking, this means bringing together our HR, IT and Finance portfolio management teams, as well as relationships within our international network, with the right people in our portfolio companies. Our portfolio management capabilities and resources are also very valuable during the pre-term sheet stage, which means I often get the opportunity to support my colleagues in the negotiation process.”

Yuda Guo Investments

“I focus most of my energy on reviewing our deal flow screening, developing our investment strategy as well as continuing to build our deal sourcing network. I also spend a lot of time on managing and reviewing the investment execution and due diligence conducted by our team as well as external advisors. The most challenging and demanding part of my work lies in term sheet negotiations and investment structuring. I often find the key to success in identifying deals where we can bring our full range of value adds and unique angles to a deal, a combination of sector insights, financial structuring and strategic and operational advantages.”

Jonas Lindblad International portfolio management, IR & ESG

“My role is extremely diverse and covers our firm’s various overseas activities, from cross-border M&A and market entry, to ESG, compliance and IR. You could say that I operate in the very epicenter of our efforts to merge deep local access and expertise with international best practice. I’m particularly pleased with our long track record of engaging with our own overseas investor base in some of these areas.”

Tang Feng Investments

“I’m involved throughout the investment process, from deal sourcing and due diligence to final negotiations. I also manage some of our external advisor relationships to ensure we maximize the efficiency of our underwriting process. I’m a strong believer in our “double-layer” approach to financial due diligence, combining solid in-house work with external advice. Relying pre-dominantly on advisors is still a very risky proposition in China.”

Ni Zhen Portfolio Management

“I’m heading our portfolio management finance team, which includes both monitoring of, and direct support to our portfolio companies. We play an important role in the 100-day plan, which includes improvement of internal controls, tax structuring, corporate governance and setting up anti-fraud and cash control systems. I also take part in the later phases of the investment process in areas such as evaluating a target company’s accounting team, tax structuring and overall compliance risks.”

Chen Zhongguo Portfolio Management

“I’m responsible for coordinating our IT and technology efforts, an area which is often overlooked by Chinese SMEs. I help our portfolio businesses with a wide range of IT-related issues, from improving ERP systems to IT security. I also work with our finance team to ensure a smooth transfer of data for our monitoring. Underinvesting in IT is an endemic issue in many fast growing businesses and the support we can offer usually has both a tangible and quick impact.”

Jonas Alsén Investments & portfolio management

“Before joining Jade Invest I spent more than two decades in China setting up and running domestic operations for foreign MNCs, including a significant amount of M&A work. I divide my time between deal sourcing and portfolio management and mostly with a focus on overseas opportunities. Whether it’s overseas bolt-on acquisitions, market entry or recruitment, most Chinese SMEs face huge barriers in terms of networks, language as well as culture. Bridging that gap is both challenging and extremely rewarding.”

Shen Jie Portfolio Management

“Human Resources play a vital role to our overall portfolio management process. In order for a portfolio company to continue its development beyond the initial 100-day plan, it has to have the right people in place. Our ability to recruit key talent for our portfolio is in my view a crucial long-term return driver. I also spend a lot of time with portfolio company management teams on remuneration and incentive systems as well as providing compensation benchmarks.”

Sun Xiao CFO, Pudow

“My role comes with significant responsibilities, both commercial and legal, and it’s therefore very important to me that both the portfolio company and the private equity investor share basic values in terms of risk management. In concrete terms this means broad agreement on issues ranging from tax compliance and internal controls to commercial risk taking and ESG. Having worked on numerous private equity backed assignments in the past, I’m acutely aware of the potential risks of not having strong alignment on these issues, as well as the rewards that can be reaped when there’s a sufficient amount of patience and discipline.”

Yan Xuan Head of M&A, Guardian

“Acquisitions is a major part of Guardian’s growth strategy and it’s an area where I believe an active private equity investor can add tremendous value. I’m privileged to be working with both a very seasoned and competent management team as well as with a highly supportive financial investor with strong local presence. This gives us a clear edge compared to most competitors, where decision-making has to pass through overseas colleagues with often limited experience of doing business in China.”

Jin Yan COO, Lätt Liv

“Bringing over two decades of professional experience from multinationals in mainland China, my overarching goal is to support Lätt Liv in its efforts to improve operational efficiency and executing its long-term strategy of becoming a leading global lifestyle goods retailer, in terms of sales and profitability as well as domestic and overseas brand recognition. I’m privileged to enjoy strong support from both Jade Invest and the company founders, who all take a long-term view on corporate development and share the notion that our focus on time-to-market and product quality is a key differentiator in this fiercely competitive market.”
