Ludvig Nilsson Investments & portfolio management

“I spend most of my time on the later steps of our investment process, from the final stages of our underwriting work to the 100-day planning and portfolio management. Practically speaking, this means bringing together our HR, IT and Finance portfolio management teams, as well as relationships within our international network, with the right people in our portfolio companies. Our portfolio management capabilities and resources are also very valuable during the pre-term sheet stage, which means I often get the opportunity to support my colleagues in the negotiation process. I have also been elected Chairman of the Swedish Chamber of commerce in China, which has broaden my network considerably.”

Yuda Guo Investments

“I focus most of my energy on reviewing our deal flow screening, developing our investment strategy as well as continuing to build our deal sourcing network. I also spend a lot of time on managing and reviewing the investment execution and due diligence conducted by our team as well as external advisors. The most challenging and demanding part of my work lies in term sheet negotiations and investment structuring. I often find the key to success in identifying deals where we can bring our full range of value adds and unique angles to a deal, a combination of sector insights, financial structuring and strategic and operational advantages.”

Lei Zhao Investments

“I spend most of my time on reviewing our deal flow screening, developing our investment strategy as well as continuing to build our deal sourcing network, especially in multiple top tier investment funds and multinational companies. I also manage some of our external advisor relationships to ensure we maximize the efficiency of our underwriting process. I’m a strong believer in our “double-layer” approach to financial due diligence, combining solid in-house work with external advice. Relying pre-dominantly on advisors is still a very risky proposition in China. “

Zhen Ni Portfolio Management

“I’m heading our portfolio management finance team, which includes both monitoring of, and direct support to our portfolio companies. We play an important role in the 100-day plan, which includes improvement of internal controls, tax structuring, corporate governance and setting up anti-fraud and cash control systems. I also take part in the later phases of the investment process in areas such as evaluating a target company’s accounting team, tax structuring and overall compliance risks.”

Zhongguo Chen Portfolio Management

“I’m responsible for coordinating our IT and technology efforts, an area which is often overlooked by Chinese SMEs. I help our portfolio businesses with a wide range of IT-related issues, from improving ERP systems to IT security. I also work with our finance team to ensure a smooth transfer of data for our monitoring. Underinvesting in IT is an endemic issue in many fast growing businesses and the support we can offer usually has both a tangible and quick impact.”

Jie Shen Portfolio Management

“Human Resources play a vital role to our overall portfolio management process. In order for a portfolio company to continue its development beyond the initial 100-day plan, it has to have the right people in place. Our ability to recruit key talent for our portfolio is in my view a crucial long-term return driver. I also spend a lot of time with portfolio company management teams on remuneration and incentive systems as well as providing compensation benchmarks.”
